Truman show good... big brother bad
The Truman Show was on TV tonight again... I had forgotten what a great movie it is. It has so many levels and raises so many questions about life and humanity and reality.-How many of us are entrapped by boundaries? How many of us live in lives that are constructed and lack a certain "real"-ness? -Who is not being watched? This is particularly pertinant with the whole Big Brother reality TV phenomenons and increasing surveillance in our society?-Who of us is really in control of our destiny? Are we all puppets? The world a stage, men and women merely players? Who is your director?-It toys with the whole "God" concept... playing god.-The emotions felt by Christof are typical when the child becomes a separate entity from the parent.-Could been seen as a metaphor for adolescence... Truman only truly grows up when he begins to question the world around him and rebel.I could go on and on and on.Something which has far less intellectual depth is te current series of Australian Big Brother. The house is full of dumb skanks and bozos and they have deliberately selected people who want to run around on screen naked and have sex in the sauna. It is sooooo trashy, the show gets worse every season. My friends and I were talking about how we would go insane in that house. No access to the outside world, not enough books, and the place is full of morons. I couldn't imagine anything worse.I heard that they told them not to have political discussions this year after the Merlin incident last year, so the show is even less interesting. Channel 10 load the housemates up with copious amounts of alcohol and hope like hell they will shag each other or do something mildly entertaining. I live in a house with druken idiotic stoners, and believe me it is not the slightest bit entertaining.
