She's moving in
Well I got back to Sydney yesterday, and with my Ikea mattress wedged in to the car as well as a few boxes that apparently would turn in to a desk with the magical placement of a few pieces of dowel (it was quite a bit more tricky than that... I even had to use a real screwdriver! But I managed to construct it!) and all my junk that I had decided was worthy of repatriating to Sydney Dad and I drove to my lovely little 1970's style terrace in Little Italy, AKA Leichhardt.
I've spent yesterday and today unpacking, constructing and buying groceries. It's extremely exciting to have a proper kitchen at my disposal after months of homecooked depravity while backpacking. It's amazing how good a piece of toast (Burgen bread of course!) with Vegemite can taste when one has been deprived of such simple pleasures. I also have set up internet, the Coop bookshop had a great deal for wireless so I'm set.
This neighbourhood is great. I'm a 5 second stroll from the bus stop, 5 minutes to the supermarket, and surrounded by little eateries and Italian restaurants that all have that one big thing that was lacking in my previous apartment block come student residence post-2002 development home... character. I don't care if the decor hasn't changed since the 70's... if the shop has been there that long, it must be doing something right. You'd hope anyway.
So far, it's all good. Though when I saw a really bad fake English pub off Parramatta Rd, my thoughts did turn to London briefly. I think it will be good once I get back to classes, so I have something to focus on, plus catching up with everyone will be good as well.
