My thoughts on some recent news stories

Here is a quick run down of some of my thoughts about recent current affairs events.... here we go! Feel free to debate/disagree/post your opinion.... I'm listen to anything.Terry Schiavo: Tragic story. Tragic situation. However in my opinion this is her family's decision and religious groups/US govt/Court system shouldn't be involved. If they can afford to keep her alive on life support then it's their choice. This may sound harsh, but I think that it is her husband and family's decision, and those pro-lifers have just jumped on the bandwagon and off we go.... one family's private decision and grief has been turned in to something public.Hundreds of people with full and active lives have been killed by wars etc.... there is probably far more evidence that Terri Schiavo is braindead than there was for the war in Iraq. What kind of "life" is she having anyway? What joy etc can she be bringing to her family? It should be their decision, not the presidents' or any courts.Ok, next issue.... (I said I would do this quickly)Amanda Vanstone: gosh I can't stand this woman! She seems to screw up every portfolio the government hands to her. Anyway, on her latest token idea to make it seem like the Aust govt is going to ease up on their illegal detention policies, she is going to let certain detainees out in to the community... that is until they are deported. It is such a pointless idea.... because by applying to be on these bridging visas which will allow them to go in to the Aust community the refugees give up all their legal rights to campaign for residency or protection visas in Australia... so basically, after being locked up for a long time Amanda might let you go in to the community for a while, and then she will deport you as soon as she can. Talk about compassion!!!What else do we have in the news this week?Oh yeah there is the whole Queen Camilla thing.... if Aussies are so worked up about it maybe they should consider becoming a republic... I don't understand why we allow our head of state to be a person who is autocratically given the position through a system which relies on the notions of aristocratic priviledge. Aren't we supposed to be democratic? And aren't we beyond that?Moving on to.... Schapelle Corby. I think she is innocent... she would have to be extremely stupid otherwise. I think it sucks that she may face the death penalty, and the government should be doing more about it.... they should be trying to help her. Plus the mishandling of evidence has been appaling! Like how all the security cameras were wiped etc, the bags weren't reweighed at the airport in Bali to see if they were heavier, the inner bags of marijuana weren't fingerprinted. I just hope that she recieves justice and doesn't face the death penalty... I don't agree with the death penalty for drug smuggling anyway... I don't condone the practice, but there are far worse things that a human being could do in this world. I don't really believe in the death penalty for anything though.Anyway, I'm off to the Easter Show, yay I have never been before! Have a good easter everyone!
