Sightseeing... of course!
Today I went to Greenwich, home of world time and the prime meridian. I straddled the east and west hemispheres of the world, how funny.
It was a very pretty place I thought.
Um other than that, I have just been trying to get my life back in to some organized form, and I have to try and think of a topic for my radio feature which is due in a few weeks... I want to do a montage piece, totally different from the presenter led packages we did in Australia. It's hard to know who to interview and stuff here because I'm so new. But I'm sure it will be right... they have Protools, so it should all be fine!
I'm listening to the Triple J Hottest 100 on stream now and I have been handwashing my clothes because I still refuse to pay two pounds for a wash when I have a sink and my hands and washing detergent. Yes, I am officially a tightarse.
So the Sydney Morning Herald is inviting people to design a new Aussie flag hey? Personally even though yes, the flag alludes to our colonial past and possibly isn't as representative as it could be, especially of indigenous people,we have more pressing issues. So, we want to change our flag, but we are still part of the Commonwealth rather than becoming a republic? What is the point of changing the flag if we won't change our political processes etc.
Plus, the flag is really only a symbol of what we make it. It's only a symbol of white racism while dickheads at Cronulla parade with it, it's a symbol of sporting prowess when people wave it in support of their favourite team, it's a symbol of connection to one's home nation when drunks at Walkabout wear their flag inscribed t shirts.
No matter what our flag is, if fuckwits take it and use it as a symbol of racism etc or as a basis to make sweeping claims about what the Australian national identity should be, then it won't really make a difference what pictures or colours are on it in my opinion.
In conclusion, we need to eliminate racists, idiots and become a republic. The end.
