Argh! I hate tourists.
Yes. I know the title of this blog is highly ironic because I myself am a tourist. But after running around all the key London attractions in a six day period this week I am realizing that I am glad I have had the time to leisurely enjoy and live in this city cos I don't like it that much when I am just hopping from one tourist attraction to the next.
I'm leaving for Paris tomorrow, with a couple of days stranded at Eurodisney before I get to experience any of France. And I am slightly scared it is going to be the same dash about stress that I so hate. I much prefer to wander. To me, missing a major attraction isn't as big a blow as missing out on wandering and exploring a place. That's my favourite part of travel.
But we have done a lot in the past few days. Madame Tussauds, a bus tour, Tower of London, saw a 64 gun salute for the Queen's 80th bday, saw "We will rock you", a West End musical that was awesome and my favourite thing so far, went to Harrods, Portobello Rd markets, British Museum, Science Museum, saw Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, went on the London Eye, went to Canary Wharf, and I think that's all. I hope my mum and sister are enjoying it, even if they are finding it tiring.
For me I am learning an important lesson from this though for my time in Europe. Make sure Ash that you don't become obsessed with just ticking countries off a list. Enjoy it. Experience it. It's not just about marking off tourist landmarks. It's been a good reminder of the type of travel I enjoy best... simply wandering and exploring and checking out the things that really interest me rather than whatever I feel I am obligated to see simply because I am in the geographical vicinity of it.
Anyway, must pack. Catching the Eurostar in the morning, I have a date with Mickey Mouse. Yay. Decide for yourself whether I am somewhat excited or being sarcastic... I'll leave it as a mystery.
I'll leave you with a photograph. This is down at the Tower of London, and it's the 64 gun salute for Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday (which was on April 21st). The first few shots were mildly interesting... then it just got really really repetitive!

Hey Ash,
I hope you're alright!!!
I am missing you, but its good to read and find out what you are up to! I am back from Poland now.
It was really nice and very interesting, food is so cheap, you will love it! a pint of beer i about 70p and i had a big meaty goulash soup and a big plate of potatoes, veg and meatballs, and 0.5 pepsi for about 1.70 pounds! :-)
However We got attacked and mugged two days before we went home, but they barely got anything (only martins mobile), and now I have abroken nose and black eye and stuff. I look terrible, but do not have a lot of pain, so its alright.
only wanted to give you a sign that i am still alive! :-)
hope youre having fun with mickey! :-)
Fabian
