An Inconvenient Truth

Last night I saw Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth, and wow, it was powerful. It really made you think seriously about the ramifications of climate change and how we can alter our behavior now to try and stop it in its tracks.

Everyone should go and see the film, I can't recommend it highly enough. When the three of us who saw it came home we immediately started trying to do things the lower the CO2 emissions our lives generate. But we quickly realized that since we don't have cars, don't have heating or airconditioning, don't have a tumble dryer, don't have much hot water, always always use eco carry bags and not plastic and try and cut back on our water usage we aren't doing too badly.

But I think the most important thing that the film did was encourage the audience to try and create political change to aid the situation. It was amazing to see how a few changes made by governments (particularly the US) could really make a large difference to the global warming problem.

The one moment of the film when I really felt ashamed was when Al Gore mentioned that the US was one of only two developed countries who haven't signed the Kyoto agreement... Australia being the other. Shame shame shame Australia, particularly the Howard government. The refusal to sign this treaty is an absolute disgrace.

In other news, I finally bought a bed!! Yay! I've been on just a mattress on the floor since returning overseas, but figured since I have scored myself a job I can afford to lash out and buy an actual bed...

I've been looking forward to seeing this for a while now. It's not opening down here until around the 5th of October so i have to wait a little longer.
