Five Things
1. Australian Idol. Yes. I know I am a sadcase. But even if it was some carefully crafted television moment, I loved Jessica Malboy coming out in a white dress and singing "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera a week after Vile Kyle Sandilands told her not to wear white cos she had a jelly belly. Stick it to the man sista, oh yeah! And she sang it so damn well even though I don't really like that song. Speaking of Aus Idol, I just popped over to the forums to see who got booted this week (cos I couldn't be bothered to watch the verdict show... a whole hour to tell us something that can be said in two words)... and I saw some classic posts in response to Dean Geyer (yes, he is hot in the pretty boy way... but girls, he is a god head. If you want to get with him, you will literally have to have his babies, and half the mortgage, so don't get ahead of yourselves...) being in the bottom three. I shall share;

Yeah I am fully with you. And I am pleased to hear that you are also in the elite club of us Australians who are not actually part of the Australian public.

Crying? Well it makes me seem like less of a sad case then for just watching the show and casting my cynical and bitchy eye over the contestants.
The best place for Idol blogging is Scott to be Certain's blog, it's hilarious. Love it.
2. Cocktails. Mel and I took our housemate holiday bonding to a new level by rocking up to the fabulous happy hour at Kuletos in Newtown on Saturday night. You can get two (yes... two) amazing cocktails for between 10 and 12 bucks during the happy hour, it is truly divine. This week we sampled the Devil in Disguise (yum!), Bananarama (it had real bananas in it, making it even more of a bargain in the current banana drought climate) and of course, our favourite Honeycomb Delight. All were well recieved. Josie joined us late and only just managed to grab a double serve of Strawberry Dream before Happy Hour ended. We then whinged about how much boys suck, how journalism is overrated, and about the wonder food that is a tin of chick peas. A good night was had by all.
Devil in disguise... oh and the drink is called that too!
Mel has devil eyes going on and everything in anticipation of happy hour cocktails!
3. Truckies on Speed. A story I did for The Wire today. I spoke to a truck driver who used to take speed to stay awake. Really interesting. You can listen to it here.
4. Lily Allen. This girl rocks my socks at the moment. Her fun pop beats hide deliciously sarcastic and crass lyrics, but are still perfect for wandering around during sunny summer days. At the moment my fav track is Knock 'em Out, a thesis on the modern problem of being hit on by ferals who won't get the hint that you ain't interested. I love the English accents in it too, where every "th" sound is pronounced as "f"... You can't knock em out, you can't walk away, try desperately to fink of the politest fing to say, just get out my face, just leave me alone and no you can't have my number cos I lost my phone! Fun stuff.
5. There was a fifth thing... can't fink of it now like. Oh yeah, it was about the weather. After a couple of beautiful days, its dropped to a chilly 21 degrees... yesterday there were gale force winds! The twigs and seed things from the tree in our back yard that we affectionately call "The Triffid" (in reference to the sci fi novel "Day of the Triffids") were being catapulted against my window all day yesterday. Argh Sydney weather is always unpredictable at this time of year... I want the warmth back though! I think it's going to be a hot summer though.
