Holiday at home
I'm back in Albury again for the long weekend, looking to record some of my radio doco on shift work as well as chill out a bit. I won't be back in town now until Christmas so I thought I would take the opportunity to hang in the ol hometown.
Chapter 1- Train Trauma
Every time I catch the Countrylink service between Sydney and Albury or vice versa it;
a) runs late
b) is completely full
c) of weirdos
I think it's because you can get discounted tickets if you have a pension card etc so there seem to be so many crazies on the train. This time there were two people sitting near me who were antsy and jittery the whole time due to not being able to chain smoke on the train. They kept on trying to get off and have a few puffs every time the train would stop and the countrylink woman would yell at them. Then an announcement came over the speaker through the train in a broad ocker Aussie accent...
"For those passengers who missed the announcement in Sydney this is a non smoking service. The person smoking in the toilet between carriages C and D will be faced with a $440 fine and will be removed from the service at the next station."
Some poor bastard got kicked off the train at Cootamundra... made me chuckle.
Then there were randoms walking around looking lost, people who couldn't understand they had to sit in their assigned seats because the train was full etc. I felt sorry for the countrylink staff having to put up with all the crap.
